Kids should be reading a book, magazine, newspaper etc. at home for at least 15 minutes. They should bring that book or other reading material to school the next day. They will read it during Reader's Workshop. Some kids have selected books from our classroom library. These should also come back to school each day!
Writer's Workshop: Some kids may want to bring in pictures, drawings, etc . to personalize their writer's notebook
Parents, please initial or sign your child's planner. If you would like to jot me a note in the planner, I will check it each morning.
Thanks!!!

January 15th
Can you believe it is the middle of January already? Here is a little update on classroom work, news and dates to remember:
Writing: We are looking to publish our personal essays on January 30th. Ask your child to explain his/her thesis statement. There are some interesting ones out there. My thesis is: Watching sports brings people together.
Reading: We are just about finished with The Lighning Thief by Rick Riordan. We are working on tracking how the main character, Percy Jackson, changes over the course of the book. The movie based on this book comes out February 13th.
Social Studies: The kids are very excited. We have just begun a Colony Simulation. Kids set sail on Monday. Hopefully, there will be no storms to sink any of our ships.
Math: Kids continue to work with fractions. They had a short quiz today to help Mr. Klanderman see if there are any challenges out there that need more practice.
Science: Our class continues to work on measuring movement by doing experiments using a stop watch.
**January 25th is a NON STUDENT day. Teachers are working on curriculum on that date.
